In 2019, we found an unopened box from Kathmandu in our warehouse that was over 20 years old. Inside, we found a handful of spectacular 11mm Bodhi Seed malas.
We restrung and oiled the beads right here at the DharmaShop, adding a brass dorje and two Tibetan skulls to finish this incredible find.
You guys loved the design so much that once we ran out, we had our friend and mala maker in Kathmandu, Dipendra, search high and low for bodhi beads of the same quality, size, and age. After a few weeks of searching, he was able to source some equally incredible Bodhi Beads and create this mala for us once again!

Bodhi Seed beads can be used for counting all types of mantras as well as other prayers. These dark-speckled seed beads have special meaning for all seekers of divine wisdom. "Bodhi" in Sanskrit means enlightenment; as an "enlightened" seed, many practitioners use these malas for their essence and inherent teachings within each seed.

Approximately 39" around. Beads are about 11-12mm.

i love my mala, its a very beautifully handcrafted. i enjoy meditationg with it, using it for my jappa but also just having it around my neck troughout the day. its a helpfull reminder to stay present and alert. thank you sven

I love this mala! The brass was a little dull looking but I grabbed the polishing cloth. Wonderful to hold and meditate with.

Beautiful Grounding Mala

I love this Mala. It’s substantial, beautifully crafted and has a grounding, calming effect on me whenever I wear it. I love how it feels whenever I touch it. My baby has been grabbing at my necklaces and hair while I breastfeed so I also thought it would be wonderful to have him touching these beautiful beads instead of chains and other materials. Now, he loves playing with it and clutches it all the time.

Hi, I once owned a spectacular mala, which I was forced to sell. Now that I have relocated and the dust has settled, I want to buy another. A bodhi seed mala. Does it matter to Dharma, lineage, or to anything whether the bodhi seeds are 'flat cut', flattened to size them smaller, or left round? Any subtle difference at all? Thank you.

Hello Michael, thanks so much for reaching out to us! That is truly up to personal preference! Overall, bodhi seeds are larger in size (12-14mm approximately depending on the mala style) Some practitioners like a cut bodhi, so the width of the bead is smaller in their hand during meditation/prayer, when others prefer to keep the natural seed as is. Hello Dave, thank you for your inquiry! When we originally restrung these bodhi seeds, a mineral oil was used, but you are of course welcome to use any oils you prefer when it is time to maintain these porous seeds! Some of our favorites are mineral oil, beeswax and coconut oil. I hope this information is helpful! We appreciate your support in Himalayan artisans!
