Antique Hand Carved Skull Mala

  |
  • DharmaShop founder, Sander Cohen, bought this antique mala from a Tibetan gentleman just outside of the Boudhanath Stupa in October of 2019.  It is an amazing mala to reflect on impermanence in your daily practice.
  • Featuring incredible antique bone beads that have been hand carved into skulls with turquoise and green aventurine accents.
  • The skull in Buddhism is often recognized as a symbol of impermanence.  It is a powerful reminder to be here now and to live in the present moment; because nothing is permanent, everything is possible.

A note about bone beads:  In the Himalayas, it is typical for large animals such as yak or water buffalo to be used for service, food, clothing, and ritual items.  Given the limited amount of resources and the religious practices of the people in the region, it is important that none of the animal goes to waste.  These amazing bone beads are handcrafted by artisans who recycle and reuse everything in daily life and spiritual practice.

Mala measures approximately 24 inches around.  Skull beads are about 6mm, spacers are about 7-8mm.
