beautiful and healthful copper bottle

I like my copper bottle so much I bought one for my best friend. I keep mine in the car, where I appreciate the purity of the water as well as the bottle's size and capacity.. My old stand-by stainless steel bottle can take on a funky smell after a while, but the beautiful hammered copper bottle stays fresh.

It’s an odd bottle

Frankly I don’t use the bottle. Perhaps I’m not totally familiar with copper products, but, firstly, the item has an unappealing, chemical smell. There are dark areas where the bottom floor of the bottle meets the sides that look suspicious. There is an inconsistency in coloration overall in places that make me wonder if the item is copper plated, but cheaply. This discoloration is different than what I’d expect from a mere general patina over the surface. Overall I don’t feel it’s safe to drink from, so I’m back to a stainless steel water vessel. I understand it’s a handicraft, but I guessed I was expecting a more professional finish, similar to copper found in some cooking utensils. Disappointed. I worry more about ingesting something unsafe than some purported Ayurvedic benefits.
