Hello Dakota, thanks so much for your message. As we have so many handmade 108 bead rudraksha malas and wrist malas, we do not source our rudraksha beads based on their number of faces or mukhi but rather by their overall quality and physical characteristics such as shape and size. The mala artisans select beads based on these qualities to ensure that bead size and overall circumference of the mala are more uniform. I have found that many of our standard 8mm rudraksha beads tend to have 5 faces, but can be anywhere from 3-5 and aren’t always uniform from bead to bead. The number of faces can vary because again, the overall quality, size, and shape of the rudraksha is how the beads are selected. I hope this information is helpful! When you ask 10 monks, you will find 10 different answers for how to use your mala beads in practice, so it is truly up to you and your personal preference! Some enjoy using the wrist mala for counting, and they can go around the bracelet multiple times to achieve the 108 prayer count, or you can use your 108 mala design for your meditation/prayer, and wear the wrist mala as a reminder of your practice.
