Handcrafted by the same 4th and 5th generation singing bowl artisans that make our Moon Bowls in the Kathmandu Valley. Made exclusively for DharmaShop, this singing bowl features the Heart Sutra mantra in Tibetan script.
The Heart Sutra is a popular and frequently used sutra in Mahayana Buddhism. It is a synopsis of the complete spiritual path from delusion, to emptiness, to achievement of supreme enlightenment.
These texts are meant to be supports for practice, and the points within them are many to be attained, not merely understood. It states that, "form is emptiness, and emptiness is form." In emptiness you will find true enlightenment and nirvana.
The Sanskrit title of the Heart Sutra translates to, "The Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom." Its teachings rely on the perfection of wisdom - the wisdom that allows you to perceive reality directly and without conceptual attachments, thereby achieving enlightenment. This essential reality, in emptiness, leads to true nirvana.
Hand carved into the exterior of this bowl is the mantra, "Gate, Gate, Paragate, Parasamgate, Bodhi Svaha," which can be translated to, "gone, gone, everyone gone to the other shore, awakening, svaha." The Heart Sutra concludes with this mantra. Interpreted, it represents awakening, going beyond, and achieving complete enlightenment.

Sound:
The sound file gives an example of the long-lasting and deeply resonating tone that your Heart Sutra Bowl will have! Because each bowl is handmade, the note may vary slightly from bowl to bowl.
Been wanting this bowl for a while and it did not disappoint. The particular bowl I received was in the note of "F" and the large wood and suede mallet is exactly what one needs to bring out the proper tones for a bowl this large. It's the perfect "foundation" for the rest of my 7 other Dharma Shop singing bowls!
The bowl is absolutely beautiful and the sound and lasting vibration are indescribable. The packaging was excellent and the bowl arrived three days after I ordered it! Just wow!

A:Hello Judy, thanks so much for reaching out to us. Yes! Our Heart Sutra Singing Bowl is made using a small blend of 7 metals along with a bronze alloy of copper and tin which is commonly referred to as bell metal. So, our singing bowls are made up mostly of bell metal, with a very small amount of the additional 7 metals added due to the traditional aspects although they do not affect the sound or function of the bowl. I hope this information is helpful! We appreciate your inquiry and support!
