Himalayan Bone Mala

PAIR IT WITH

  • Natural bone beads are a great way to reflect on the Buddhist teachings of impermanence in your daily practice.
  • This 108 mala from Kathmandu features natural yak bone that has been hand carved into beads with the ends lightly polished.
  • They serve as a reminder to live in the present moment; because nothing is permanent, everything is possible.

A note about bone beads:  In the Himalayas, it is typical for large animals such as yak or water buffalo to be used for service, food, clothing, and ritual items.  Given the limited amount of resources and the religious practices of the people in the region, it is important that none of the animal goes to waste.  These amazing bone beads are handcrafted by artisans who recycle and reuse everything in daily life and spiritual practice.

Size:

Approximately 27" around. Beads are about 13mm.

Love the mala, but some beads are completely hollowed out.

There is no doubt about the authenticity. The quality is top notch. But there are about some beads which are completely hollowed out due to the rot in them, and this messes with the vibrations.

DharmaShop

Hello Bhanu, thanks for your order and support! Creating a bead shape with natural materials like bone or even wood or seeds can be tricky, and artisans will always use/recycle all materials to ensure nothing goes to waste. As you noted, this further authenticates the beads themselves! It should not affect the use case of this mala and will continue to be a great reminder of impermanence in your practice. We understand that not every handmade item can always be a perfect fit, so if you would prefer to send this style back to us for a refund or exchange, we are happy to help further. Thanks again for your feedback and for choosing our small shop when selecting handicraft items. Namaste!
