Water buffalo bone and turquoise beads decorate this Tibetan necklace. Tibetan nomadic life is hard, and in the cold there is little to eat. Water buffalo is a main staple in Nepal and Tibet and when an animal is used for food nothing is wasted.
A turquoise and silver pendant hangs from the center, displaying a hand stamped dorje as well as the compassion mantra. Tibetan Buddhists believe that saying the mantra, Om Mani Padme Hum out loud or silently to oneself, invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion. Viewing the written form of the mantra is said to have the same effect.
Adjustable; measures approximately 22 inches when fully tightened and about 28 inches at it's widest. Pendant measures approximately 35mm tall and 25mm wide. Beads are 8mm and strung on black cord. Handmade in Nepal.
