Antique Dark Bodhi Seed Mala

• A true antique Bodhi Seed mala purchased directly by the DharmaShop team in Kathmandu.  Though worn with age, many of the 108 small antique beads feature the phoenix eye motif.
• Each bead is rich in detail with a beautiful, dark sheen as well as its own shape and texture.  The mala has been restrung in recent years on red cord with a yellow sliding knot.
• These speckled seed beads have special meaning for all seekers of divine wisdom.  "Bodhi" in Sanskrit means enlightenment; as an "enlightened" seed, many practitioners use these malas for their essence and inherent teachings within each seed.

This mala comes from our DharmaShop curated collection.  It was hand selected from an antique Bodhi seed seller just outside of the Boudhanath temple.  Here you can see monks from nearby monasteries meditating with similar mala beads.

The Bodhi seeds originate from the Kavrepalanchok District, one of the only places in Nepal to produce Bodhi seeds!  This seller and her family have been involved in the Bodhi seed trade for generations.  Kavrepalanchok is also the hometown of the head of our DharmaShop Nepal team!

Mala measures approximately 40 inches around.  Beads are about 10-11mm with most around 10mm.  Guru bead is about 19mm.  Comes with a DharmaShop keepsake bag!
