Three Jewels of Buddhism Prayer Flags

  |
  • These Windhorse prayer flags are the traditional colors of yellow, white, red, blue, and green.
  • The central image of Windhorse is accompanied by four animals in the cardinal directions: garuda and dragon in the upper corners, with tiger and snow lion in the lower corners.
  • A large variety of prayers and mantras in Tibetan surround the Windhorse who, in this context, is without wings but carries the Three Jewels of wish fulfilling.

The Windhorse image symbolizes well-being and good fortune.  Prayer flags themselves are commonly referred to as "Lungta," the Tibetan word for Windhorse.  They flutter in the wind and carry their prayers toward the sky like the horse flying in the wind.  Windhorse is often depicted as carrying the wish-fulfilling jewel, or the Three Jewels of Buddhism: the Buddha (teacher), the Dharma (teaching), and the Sangha (community).

Set includes 25 flags that measure approximately 6 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches.  Full strand measures approximately 16 feet long.  Made of cotton in Nepal.
