Unearthed & Awakened Pumtek Mala

  |

Buried Thunderbolt of Enlightenment
  • This stunning 108 bead mala necklace is a true collectors item, hand strung by our in-house jewelry designer right here in Michigan! Its rare beauty lies in a unique collection of three vintage Pumtek beads.
  • Earlier this year, we visited with a husband and wife Tibetan artisan team that we work with in Nepal at a jewelry show in Arizona. We selected a handful of incredible antique Pumtek and Dzi beads from their collection and had our jewelry designer choose a few of her favorites to create some incredible one-of-a-kind heirloom malas.
  • These three antique treasures, each entirely one-of-a-kind, feature a striped design (round beads) and zig-zag design (long bead). The rarity, age, and great condition of these beads imbue the mala with a touch of history and mysticism.

Complementing the Pumtek beads are stunning Lodolite Quartz gemstones, also known as Garden Quartz. Our designer hand selected these beads specifically for the Pumteks. A garden of tranquility, the translucent beads feature inclusions of green, brown, golds, and warm tones that resemble a miniature garden scene. An emotional healer, this stone is prized for calming and grounding properties, promoting growth and a connection to nature.

The word Pumtek means, "buried thunderbolt" and these Pumtek beads are among the rarest and most sought after collectable beads in the world. Pumtek beads are made of opalized wood, a material that is indigenous to Burma where the beads originated. Opalized wood occurs when wood is fossilized and turned into stone, making these beads extremely unique.

Unearthed in Burma, traded to Nepal, traveled to Arizona, and assembled in Michigan. Well-traveled, loved, and full of rich history and transformation.
