Traditional Prayer Flags Set of 10

  |

PAIR IT WITH

  • One of our best-selling sets of handmade prayer flags from Kathmandu, Nepal.
  • Set of 10 flags featuring 5 designs including: Guru Rinpoche, Green Tara, Wind Horse, White Tara and a smaller traditional Wind Horse design.
  • The flags are the traditional colors of yellow, white, red, blue, and green.

Guru Rinpoche, also called Padmasambhava, is known as a character of literature and knowledge.  Padmasambhava was a historical teacher who is said to have finally converted Tibet to Buddhism.  He was a renowned scholar, meditator, and magician, and his mantra suggests his rich and diverse nature.

Green Tara is known as the Buddha of enlightened activity, filled with youthful vigor.  She is the fiercer form of Tara, but is still a savior-goddess of compassion.  In Buddhist religious practice, Green Tara's primary role is savioress.  She is believed to help her followers overcome dangers, fears and anxieties, and she is especially worshipped for her ability to overcome the most difficult of situations.

In Buddhism, the horse is symbolic of energy and effort in the practice of dharma.  It also symbolizes the air, or prana, which runs through the channels of the body and is the vehicle of the mind.  A Wind Horse is symbolic of the mind and the wind is its vehicle, therefore it can be ridden upon.  This means that we all have the possibility of controlling the mind and can guide it towards any directly at any speed we wish.

White Tara sits upon a lotus blossom, representing compassion and healing.  The lotus flower represents purity and fortune.  She is associated with long life.  Her mantra is often chanted with a particular person in mind.  She’s another representation of compassion, and she’s pictured as being endowed with seven eyes to symbolize the watchfulness of the compassionate mind.

Set includes 10 flags that measure about 8 inches tall and 6 inches wide.  Full string is approximately 7 feet long.  Made of heavy cotton.

Traditional impermanent prayer flags

These prayer flags are beautiful and appropriately made of cotton. Many other flags are being made of synthetic materials so they last longer. In my opinion, the whole point is for the flags to disintegrate over time in the wind. It’s all about impermanence.

Thanks so much for your feedback! Artisans in Nepal use both cotton and polyester fabrics to create long-lasting options. Both styles are great reminders of your prayers and wishes blowing into the wind! With that in mind, we do appreciate your feedback and will source other great cotton options during our next trip to Kathmandu. Namaste!

We are happy with these prayer flags

So far they're holding up well in what has been wet and windy weather. They provide a colorful bright spot among the trees.
