Antique Bodhi & Pumtek Thunderbolt Bracelet

  |

Buried Thunderbolt of Enlightenment
  • Handcrafted in Michigan by our jewelry designer, this one-of-a-kind bracelet features a captivating blend of ancient and modern design. Made with antique Bodhi Seed beads unearthed in Bhutan and strung with two modern and high quality Pumtek accents.
  • Earlier this year, through a trusted friend and collector of Tibetan artifacts and antique beads, our founder Sander Cohen was able to select some truly incredible Pumtek beads and a stunning antique Bodhi mala necklace from his collection. Our jewelry designer had the amazing idea to restring the mala into five one-of-a-kind bracelets using the Pumtek beads as centerpieces.
  • Each bracelet features its own distinctive pair of Pumtek beads, ensuring you receive a truly one-of-a-kind bracelet. Because each pair of beads is so distinct, we don't choose your bracelet for you - it chooses you.

The foundation of this bracelet lies in the exquisite antique Bodhi Seed beads, estimated to be over 100 years old. Each seed is cut on both ends in the traditional manner, following the craftsmanship of their time. These dark-speckled seed beads have special meaning for all seekers of divine wisdom. "Bodhi" in Sanskrit means enlightenment; as an "enlightened" seed, many practitioners use these malas for their essence and inherent teachings within each seed.

The word Pumtek means, "buried thunderbolt" and these Pumtek beads are among the rarest and most sought after collectable beads in the world. Pumtek beads are made of opalized wood, a material that is indigenous to Burma where the beads originated. Opalized wood occurs when wood is fossilized and turned into stone, making these beads extremely unique.

Ancient Pumtek beads like this would be priceless, and in the last decade even the vintage and antique Pumtek beads have become incredibly hard to source. We were so excited to find a small collection of modern beads of this quality.

Unearthed in Burma, traded to Nepal, traveled to Arizona, and assembled in Michigan. Well-traveled, loved, and full of rich history and transformation.

Size:

6.75-7" in diameter. Bodhi beads are about 10mm. Pumtek beads are about 13mm and 3/4" long.
