This Shakyamuni statue is carved entirely by hand, then cast using the lost wax method. Over eight artists work on carving, making wax molds, pouring hot bronze, and hand painting the gold faces and eyes on a statue like this. It takes Meenu Shakya herself months to complete a statue with such intricate hand painted details.
This statue is full of colorful painted detail including Tibetan dragons, lotus flowers, and swimming fish. Dragons have special meaning and symbolism in many cultures. They are fierce protectors and wise leaders, guardians and sages. Tibetan dragons are protectors of Buddhism whose thunderous voices awaken us from delusion. The face of the statue is painted with gold leaf in the traditional manner.
About 8" tall and 5.5" wide.
