Mother of Dzi Ancient Agate Bracelet 01

  |

  • A rare and ancient find with hundreds of years of history and heritage. This ancient natural agate Dzi bead was purchased directly by the DharmaShop team from a collector we've traded and worked with for over 20 years.
  • This bead has traveled throughout India, Burma, and the Himalayas, and is estimated to be between 600-1,000 years old. The incredible agate stone was unearthed by hands of an ancient world and traded throughout the centuries as a prized artifact.
  • Ancient agates have been used throughout the ages not only for decoration, but also as protection amulets to shield the wearer from negativity or evil and promote good health.

In the winter of 2023, Sander, founder and owner of DharmaShop, was contacted by a collector friend he has known for nearly 20 years. This collector typically works in Tibetan ritual artifacts and ancient beads, and contacted Sander right away upon acquiring this special bead for his private collection. This is an heirloom belonging to the traditions and region of Tibet and the Himalayas. Recently, Sander decided to string the bead with vintage-style Tibetan bone to create a one-of-a-kind bracelet and offer it to our DharmaShop community.

The beads size is astonishing for its age and journey throughout time and history. The stone itself is full of intricate detail such as agate banding, surface texture, and color variation. The small chips on the surface are considered auspicious and are a reflection of the beads age and authenticity.

Striped agates like these are actually the original beads, before the traditional "eye" Dzi beads, that Tibetans collected. This is why striped agates are sometimes referred to as the "Mother of Dzi". Tibetan Buddhists believe that agate helps stabilize the aura and eliminate negative energies. Every bead has its own beautiful details just like a beloved Dzi. It also carries rich spiritual significance, making this not just an accessory, but also a tool for mindfulness and peace.

Natural bone beads are a great way to reflect on the Buddhist teachings of impermanence in your daily practice.  They serve as a reminder to live in the present moment; because nothing is permanent, everything is possible.
