The city of Bangkok is filled with stunning beauty and breathtaking contrasts. These images reflect just such a place. They were taken at one of the most well known Buddhist sites in Bangkok, Wat Arun, on the bustling banks of the Chao Phraya River. The entire 280 foot tall prang, or pagoda, is covered in carefully laid bits of broken Chinese porcelain. The broken porcelain was used as ballast in trading ships between China and Siam. Today the flowers remain intact, representing the powerful human spirit. From broken, jagged pottery to beauty and higher purpose is apropos for a city such as Bangkok.
