These exquisitely carved skull beads are some of the nicest we have ever seen. They are made of hand-carved bone and hand strung in Nepal. Each bead is 1/2 inch tall so we strung them as a 54 bead mala. 54 bead malas are often used for prostration practice and counting mantras.
The skull in Buddhism is often recognized as a symbol of impermanence. This mala is an amazing way to reflect on impermanence in your daily practice. It is a powerful reminder to be here now and to live in the present moment; because nothing is permanent, everything is possible.
A note about bone beads: Tibetan nomadic life is hard, and in the cold there is little to eat. Water buffalo is a main staple in Nepal and Tibet, and when an animal is used for food nothing is wasted. These amazing bone beads are handcrafted by artisans who recycle and reuse everything in daily life and spiritual practice.
Measures approximately 26 inches around. Made in Nepal.
