Buddhist Reflection Traditional Mala

  |

This 108 bead mala features naturally dyed yak bone beads that are inlaid with pieces of turquoise, coral and brass.  It features naga shell and tiger eye spacers with a set of antique style bell and dore mala counters, and is finished with a white metal bell and dorje pendant.  Bone beads allow us to reflect upon the Buddhist teachings of impermanence.  They serve as a reminder to live in the present moment; because nothing is permanent, everything is possible.

In the Himalayas, it is typical for large animals such as yak or water buffalo to be used for service, food, clothing, and ritual items.  Given the limited amount of resources and the religious practices of the people in the region, it is important that none of the animal goes to waste.  These amazing bone beads are handcrafted by artisans who recycle and reuse everything in daily life and spiritual practice.

Mala measures approximately 27 inches around.  Bone beads are 11-12mm, tiger eye beads are 12mm, naga shell beads are about 16mm.  Made in Nepal.
