We asked our mala makers to create a smaller bone mala that was both beautiful and also very easy to use. We love the size and shape of these traditional Tibetan yak bone beads. It can be worn easily around the wrist or as a necklace. Handmade in Kathmandu, Nepal.
A note about bone usage: In the Himalayas, it is typical for large animals such as yak or water buffalo to be used for service, food, clothing, utensils, and ritual items. Given the limited amount of resources and the religious practices of the people in the region, it is important that none of the animal goes to waste. These amazing bone beads are handcrafted by artisans who recycle and reuse everything in daily life and spiritual practice.
108 yak bone beads with 3 pressed turquoise and 6 sherpa coral beads. Measures approximately 30 inches around. Beads are about 8mm, pressed turquoise beads are 10mm.
