    • During the early days of DharmaShop, we would purchase one-of-a-kind malas from the monks around Boudhanath Stupa. We've since found an incredible shop nearby that specializes the same handcrafted mala beads used by the monks during their pilgrimage!
    • This monk's mala is handmade in Nepal using high-quality and authentic Bodhi Seed beads, and antique-style Tibetan bell and dorje mala counters that are hand strung on leather.

    We were only able to source a handful of these incredibly special malas, so grab one while you can!

    Walking kora is an important part in the lives of many Tibetans and Buddhists, including monks and nuns. This form of meditation involves walking clockwise around a sacred site, often spinning prayer wheels, counting malas, or repeating mantras. This simple practice calms the mind helps the pilgrim, or "one who circles," accumulate merit on their journey to spiritual enlightenment.

    Bodhi Seed beads can be used for counting all types of mantras as well as other prayers. These dark-speckled seed beads have special meaning for all seekers of divine wisdom. "Bodhi" in Sanskrit means enlightenment; as an "enlightened" seed, many practitioners use these malas for their essence and inherent teachings within each seed.

    41" around. 10-11mm beads. Guru bead is about 15mm.

    An Absolute Joy To Use

    My wife was kind enough to gift the Bodhi Monk's Mala to me last December, and I've been using it steadily ever since. Words cannot express how grateful I am for this mala. The seeds are just the right size, being neither too large nor too small, and with just enough texture to help me in counting recitations. They possess a delightful earthy smell as well. I own a few bodhi seed malas, including Dharma Shop's Traditional Bodhi Mala, but I much prefer the smaller and rounder beads of the Bodhi Monk's Mala, which are very hard to come by at any price nowadays. The counters are also very nice. Hefty, but not as overly large and heavy as others I've used. I'd call them "just right" for a mala of this size. One note: The product description says that this mala has an adjustable knot. Mine does not. But it is very well strung, with a proper amount of free space between beads, so it not a functional issue for me. After almost 40 years of using various wood, seed and crystal malas, I can honestly say that this mala is probably the best I've used. Maybe not the mala I'd wear, day in and day out, due to the overall size and weight, but a perfect mala to use at home in front of an altar.
